How to Choose the Right Sunglasses

Getting the right sunglasses is about more than just choosing a pair of shades that will block bright rays. It’s about getting a pair of shades that will work well with your face and your style. Just like picking out workout clothes that are both functional and fashionable, when you choose the right sunglasses for you, you need to take into account both how they’ll look on you and what kind of style best reflects your personality and taste.

At 2ToneFit, we know a thing or two about creating quality workout clothes that look great, and we know that every fitness fashionista needs a pair of fabulous shades. So here’s your guide to choosing the best sunglasses for your face.

Find Your Face Shape

To begin, pull your hair back and grab a mirror and a dry-erase marker or a bar of soap. Now, use the marker or soap to trace the shape of your face on the mirror. The shape you get will fall into one of four categories: heart-shaped, round, oval, or square. Now just use our guide for each face shape to choose the shades that will look best on you.

If you have a heart-shaped face, then your forehead will be wider than your jaw line, so you’ll want to balance this out with frames that are wider than your forehead. If the frames have any details, make sure they’re on the lower half. You’ll also do well with lighter lenses, as well as retro and cat-eye frames.

For a round face, go with a pair of sunglasses that are wider than they are tall. Square-framed shades and retro sunglasses work really well for round faces.

With an oval face, you have the freedom to go with bold shapes. Aviators and over-sized sunglasses look great on women with oval-shaped faces. You should also play with bold patterns and fun styles for your frames, but be sure to pick a size that balances with your features.

If your face is more square, you’ll want to soften your “corners” with a pair of round sunglasses or aviators. You may be able to get away with over-sized shades, but these can make your face look out of proportion, so be sure to try on a few pairs to see if they have the desired effect or not.

There you go! Now you have a great guide to help you choose the best sunglasses for your face, whether you’re headed to the gym or the beach. Enjoy!
