4 Fun Tips to Stay Motivated for the Gym

When you started your workout regimen, it was easy to feel motivated because you knew you were going to start seeing results and that you were going to enjoy being leaner and healthier. Unfortunately, that kind of vague motivation doesn’t last for most people. While some ladies out there can keep going and going with nothing more than the idea of “getting fit” in their heads, the rest of us could use a little help. Fortunately, we have a few fun tips that have worked for us and that we think will work for you, too.

 

Add Some Variety

Nobody likes doing the same thing over and over again every day. If you’re feeling like you’re in a rut and you’re dreading going to the gym, change things up a little. If you usually do your cardio on the elliptical or treadmill, get outside for a run or take an aerobics class. If you do all your strength training on machines by yourself, schedule your next workout to coincide with a barbell class. Variety is the spice of life, and it can make your workouts more fun and more sustainable, too.

 

Check Out Your Progress

Take a look in the mirror at what all your hard work has accomplished so far, and don’t be afraid to snap a quick gym selfie. Whether or not you decide to post it on Instagram (and tag us if you do), you’ll see that you’re really getting places with your workouts, and you’ll be motivated to keep going. Plus, in a few weeks or months, the picture you take today could become your “before” pic.

 

Set a Specific Goal

Instead of just saying, “I want to lose weight,” set a concrete and specific goal. If you can only run a mile or less, make your goal to run a 5K. If you’re getting into yoga, your goal could be to hold a headstand for more than five breaths (easier said than done). Whatever your goal is, make sure that it’s something really tangible and clear that you can move toward with your work each day at the gym.

Finally, if your workout clothes are looking a little worn and sad, go ahead and buy some attractive and fun clothes that will make you want to go to the gym and get fit.
